Each new year, millions of people make a New Year’s resolution, an effort to push in more health, fitness & overall well-being into their lives. But according to Forbes only 8% actually stick with it. This New year, be part of that 8%, make your switch to veganism. If done the right way and for the right reasons, this lifestyle change will last longer than a few days or a few weeks or a few months. Here’s how.
Planning your meals is the most important part!
As veteran vegans, when it comes to meals, we don’t stress too much about planning. It’s something that just becomes an instinct after a few years. But for beginners, it can be very challenging! Most of all the food, we make ourselves. Make a shopping list, a meal plan, and a budget. You’ll find that making food won’t be as hard and as expensive as you thought. Search through the 365vegan.com blog to find some great recipes. Pinterest, Google, and YouTube also have some great recipes.
But what makes a vegan lifestyle worth it?
- You can save the planet
Animal agriculture is one of the leading causes of deforestation, air pollution and water pollution. The United States could feed 800 million hungry people with the grains used to feed livestock. Animal agriculture also uses 36 -74 trillion gallons of water annually in the USA.
- You can save the animals
About 1 billion land animals are killed each year for their flesh in the U.S alone. (Excluding aquatic animals, which is in the trillions). Baby calves are stolen from their mothers so that humans can drink their milk. Since only female chicks lay eggs, male chicks are brutally ground up. And the females have to live their lives in small cages (or in the case of cage-free eggs, they are crowded up together, to the point where they can’t even move).
- You can save your health
Plant-based lifestyle has been shown to dramatically reduce your risk (and cure) many diseases, including cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease & many more!
As you can see, a vegan lifestyle can save your life, the animals lives and the entire planet. Every one less person contributing to all the problems caused by animal agriculture makes a huge difference. “You must be the change you wish to see in the world” - Gandhi
